Home is Where You Make It: Iconic As Ever, Falling Water Endures

Looking like the picturesque scene from Pennsylvania wilderness that it is, Falling Water stands not only as one of architect Frank Lloyd Wright’s finest accomplishments, but as one of America’s timeless classic architectural achievements.  Designed in 1935 and completed in 1939, Falling Water embodies man’s ingenuity for architectural design and places it directly among some of the most beautiful nature in the small area of Mill Run, Pennsylvania (which happens be about a 2 hour drive from Pittsburgh).

The home served as a weekend retreat for the family of Edgar J. Kaufmann(a wealthy department store owner) from 1937 until 1963 when Kaufman’s son donated the home to the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy.  The home was added to the National Registrar of Historic Places in 1974 and in 2007 ranked 29th as one of America’s favorite architectural structures.
